WHY I STARTED REKN
I grew up in a rural, blue-collar household where dogs roamed freely and the land handled what it was designed to handle.
Today, an estimated 6.5 million tons of plastic-wrapped dog waste end up in U.S. landfills every year, making pet waste one of the most overlooked environmental challenges hiding in plain sight. What was once managed naturally has become a growing waste stream that few people ever think about.

REKN is building a better system for pet ownership. We measure impact, reduce waste, and develop products that help create healthier routines for pets, people, and the planet.
Why does this matter?
What feels like a small daily habit becomes a massive environmental issue when repeated across millions of households. Every year, an estimated 6.5 million tons of plastic-wrapped dog waste end up in U.S. landfills, supported by more than 65 billion pet waste bags and roughly 730 bags used annually by the average dog owner.
REKN is helping pet owners understand that impact, make more informed choices, and support a healthier future for their faithful friends.
How does it work?
We are developing solutions that redirect pet waste upstream into more responsible pathways. The first step is understanding real-world habits, which is why we are starting with community input.
